The Traveling Horse Star (역마살)
Yeokma, the Traveling Horse Star, marks movement as a structural feature of a chart rather than a preference: places, jobs, contexts that keep changing. It is read from your day or year branch and lands on the branch that opens a new cycle. Each trine group has a branch that begins it. The Traveling Horse is the branch that opposes and therefore breaks that beginning — the point where a settled cycle is forced to start over somewhere else. That is why the star is about relocation rather than restlessness: the mechanism is a cycle being interrupted, not a person being bored.

What the classics said
The name is literal: a post-station horse, the animal that carried official mail between relay stations and never stayed anywhere. In an agrarian society where land and lineage were the whole of security, a chart that kept moving you was a misfortune, and yeokma was classed among the sal accordingly.
How Korean readers read it now
The same structure now describes work that most people want. Foreign postings, sales territories, logistics, aviation, anything with a suitcase in it. What was displacement in a farming economy is mobility in this one — the star did not change, the economy did.
In love
Distance is a recurring feature rather than an accident — long-distance stretches, partners met elsewhere, relationships that survive or fail on how they handle absence. A partner who needs constant physical presence is the friction point.
At work
Roles with territory, travel, or frequent context switching run with the grain. A long tenure in a single unchanging seat is where people with this star tend to get quietly unwell, and they usually attribute it to the job rather than to the stillness.
The common misreading
It is often read as "you will live abroad." The marker is about movement, and movement includes changing industries, changing cities, or rebuilding the same career three times without leaving the country.
Why the same star behaves differently
Which pillar carries it decides what moves. In the year pillar it often shows as a childhood that relocated; in the hour pillar it can arrive late, as a life that changes shape after everything looked settled. Whether the movement reads as freedom or as being pushed depends on the rest of the chart, not on this star.
